Education
2007 - present Doing a 2-year Masters degree Applied Computing Science at Utrecht University focussing on processing large amount of data with smart algorithms. Courses include evolutionary algorithms, graph algorithms and data mining.
2003 - 2006 Attained Bachelors for Computer Science and Mathematics at Utrecht University. In this I performed research for my Bachelor thesis in the field of Graph theory, the expanding graphs. With a team of eight students from Computer Science we created the software product Spectre, a unique product in the field of Proteomics.
1997 - 2003 Gymnasium with exact courses and biology at Het Baken in Almere.
Work experience
Mar 2007 - Sep 2007 Adapting a agent-based epidemiological simulation program STDSIM (Sexual Transmitted Diseases SIMulation) at dept of Public Health of Erasmus MC in Rotterdam to use BOINC. BOINC makes it easy to do distributed computing, distributing runs to different computers or even to volunteers.
Sep 2006 - Mar 2007 Working on a project which models HIV and TB on a population scale, in an agent-based model as a visitor. This project is run by South African Centre for Epidemiological Modeling and Analysis (SACEMA) in Stellenbosch, South Africa. The goal is to write and scientifically validate this model, using Modgen from Statistics Canada as the programming language of choice. Modgen code relies on C++ but takes some model management out of hands.
Oct 2005 Developed a photo upload and viewing system in PHP (Dutch).
2002, 2005 Giving extra math lessons to a few high school students in their
before-last year.
2002-2003 Doing activities with a spastic teenager.
2001 Helping in all the parts of the process of a greenhouse for daisies, for 8 weeks in total.
Extracurricular activities
2003 - present During this period I have been an active member of the student corporation Biton. For Biton I have been, amongst others, on a web and programming committee, I have done PR and actively searched for sponsors. I have also organized activities and an introduction and been part of a cooking committee as well as having been a bartender at Biton.
